RE
RE Intent Statement
Our RE curriculum is designed to provide a coherent and progressive development of knowledge, skills and understanding.
We want our pupils to:
Love learning about Christianity and other principal religions represented in Great Britain.
Achieve their full potential by becoming understanding citizens who are mindful of those within their community.
Develop curiosity by exploring unknown places and people.
Have fun learning about new and exciting places and people.
Be inspired by local and global figures who help to make a difference to the world around us.
Have memorable experiences by visiting and receiving visits from people within our local community.
Learn life skills which pupils can apply when they are out in the wider community.
Develop as individuals who have mutual respect and open-mindedness towards others of different faiths and beliefs and for those without a faith.
Implementation
Although not part of the National Curriculum, R.E. is recognised as an important part of the school curriculum. The Government stipulated in 2011 that the Local Authority should be responsible for the drawing up of an agreed syllabus that reflects the local population. In keeping with this, we follow the Stockton SACRE (Standing Advisory Council for Religious Education) syllabus, last updated in 2019.
Impact
The impact of R.E. teaching at Layfield can be seen in:
- Children’s enjoyment learning about the 6 major world religions.
- Children having fun learning in a variety of ways such as visits, where they have memorable experiences.
- Children develop an understanding and are accepting of their peer’s and adult’s beliefs.
- Children are inquisitive asking questions to deepen their knowledge and understanding.
- Children developing life-skills, such as tolerance, respect and understanding, which are transferrable to the wider community.
